The Evolution Journey Weekly Words: Taking action and being consistent

Since setting up my own business just over 4 years ago, I've been on the biggest learning curve I've ever been on - and it's been a rollercoaster of a journey. One of the most important things I've learnt is that by taking action and being consistent over time I will reap truly satisfying long-term success and rewards.
The art of procrastination (and a fear of failure)
This email is something I've been procrastinating about for....dare I say it?.....at least two years! I've been wanting to write a weekly blog or email but I just kept putting it off. I'd always find something else to do that was way more important - like doing the food shop or hanging out the washing! In actual fact, I was just afraid of failing. Worried that what I write might not be of any help to anyone. I'm also a massive over thinker so by the time you read the finished email, be safe in the knowledge that I've probably deleted and rewritten each sentence about fifty times!
Taking action (finally!)
Today is a day for taking action and finally doing what I said I was going to do. If I make a few mistakes along the way (and if my grammar isn't perfect) I'm fine with that, as mistakes are just part of our ability to learn and grow.
Consistency gets results
We're often looking for a quick fix, a surge of motivation or some kind of epiphany to help us achieve our goals. But what gets people results is consistency. So I've blocked out the time in my diary every Thursday morning to send this email. I'm definitely out of my comfort zone but it's important to me and I've put a strategy in place to make it as easy as possible to be consistent.
Most of the time, most people don't feel motivated to go to the gym but they show up and get the work done even when training feels like a hard slog. On that note - yesterday I got to the bottom of the gym stairs to go home without doing my training session. There were all sorts of excuses going around my head! But I gave myself a talking to, walked back upstairs and trained. And I was so grateful that I'd done it afterwards!
The same process applies to food - whether you want to lose weight, gain weight or maintain weight. Eating the plate of healthy veg, rice and chicken when you'd rather have a stuffed crust pepperoni pizza and chips is a decision that your future self will thank you for.
Being consistent and prioritising long term goals over short-term, short-lived satisfaction is what sets people who achieve results apart from those who don't.
This doesn't mean that you can't have fun and enjoy life. But by making decisions that are consistent with your goals for more of the time, you will undoubtedly reach our goals sooner. If your consistent 90% of the time, you'll reach your goals far sooner than if you're consistent only 60% of the time!
A book recommendation
If you'd like to know more on building habits and consistency, one of the best books I have read in the past couple of years is Atomic Habits by James Clear. I've used so many of his strategies myself and with my clients with great success. It's available on all the usual online and retail book stores. Click here for the link to his website which has loads of great tips and information.
Two questions for you:
1. What action do you need to take and what's stopping you from taking it?
2. How can being more consistent help you achieve your goals?
Until next week!
Best wishes,
Charlotte
