Have you lost your mojo?

Right now I'm going through a phase of feeling very motivated about work, my training and life in general. I'm juggling work and personal life with fairly good results so things are going well. But it's not always like this. Motivation comes and goes, obstacles get in the way of my goals (like a recent injury) and sometimes life just feels tougher than I'd like it to. So how do we stay motivated when things don't go as smoothly as we'd like or when obstacles get in the way of our desired success? Motivation is a fickle b***ch! We set ourselves some goals and at first everything seems like a breeze, we stick to the plan, we're full of enthusiasm and then all of a sudden - bang - it's gone! We've lost our mojo an everything just seems like a slog. Know that feeling? That little voice in your head asking you 'what's the point'? Telling you 'this is too hard, you'll never get to where you want to be'. Motivation is a fickle bitch and it can't be relied upon to reach your goals. It's what gets you started but it most definitely won't see you through. Momentum over motivation Whilst motivation is what gives you the drive to set goals and get started, it's the momentum that builds over time that will help you achieve your goals. It's doing the little things every day to work towards your goal, the little baby steps in the right direction. Focus on the daily process goals not just the big outcome goal. So, if your goal is to get to a bodyweight squat in 3 months time, your weekly habit is to attend the gym 3 nights a week at 6pm. Rome wasn't built in a day, but they worked on it, every single day. Consistency over perfection Bad days happen. Things don't always go to plan. You've set yourself the goal of going to the gym three nights a week. You have a bad day at work and the last thing you want to do is go to the gym. This is when self-sabotage can ruin all the best laid plans. This is when motivation turns its back on you and runs out of the door! It's at these points in your journey that it's most important that you continue to do the work - even when you have a bad day. Stick with your original plan and do what you said you were going to do. Otherwise when you're feeling better, you'll be really annoyed at yourself for letting a bad day potentially mess up your goals. You still turn up and do the work in the gym. You might not have the best session, but you maintain the habit of going to the gym. You've stayed consistent and that's the key. My top tips to keep going when you lose your mojo: 1. Make sure the goals you create are realistic and individual to you 2. Write your goal down and put it somewhere that you see it every day 3. Focus on small daily habits that move you towards your bigger goal 4. Decide how you will be kept accountable for doing your daily habits (a tracker, an app, hire a coach?) 5. Be prepared for obstacles and create strategies to overcome them in advance 6. Stay disciplined with your habits and focus on consistency not perfection 7. Be patient with yourself!
Two questions for you:
1. How often have you given up on a goal because you lost motivation?
2. What's one small thing you can start doing today to move you towards your goal?
